The Environmental Remediation Research Group o "Grupo de Investigación en Remediación Medioambiental" (GIREMA), located in Laboratory 9 at the Amengual Research Center-USACH, conducts research focused on the development and application of advanced chemical and electrochemical processes for the remediation of environmental matrices, with particular emphasis on water and soil systems. The group integrates principles and methodologies from analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and electrochemistry to investigate the fate, transport, and transformation of contaminants of emerging concern, including pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and other environmentally relevant organic pollutants.

Research activities at GIREMA encompass the development of sustainable remediation technologies, including advanced chemical and electrochemical treatment processes, electrokinetic soil remediation, adsorption-based approaches employing functionalized materials, and hybrid treatment systems designed for contaminant removal and degradation. Through these efforts, GIREMA aims to provide innovative and environmentally responsible solutions for the protection of water and soil resources, as well as the restoration of ecosystems affected by anthropogenic activities.
