Abstract
The main focus of research in the laboratory is Extremophiles. This includes sampling from natural extreme environments including Antarctica and other extreme environments in Chile as well as growth and isolation of extremophilic microorganisms, detection, purification and characterization of their enzymes and bioactive compounds for potential industrial applications. Additionally, we are currently investigating the process of biocorrosion, which encompasses synergistically all before mentioned topics with the aim to develop sustainable solutions. My laboratory contributes with all this non-trivial specific knowledge already mentioned and benefis tremendously from the interaction and collaborative scientific work
developed in conjunction with institutions in Chile and worldwide. Our applied lines of research allowed us to maintain permanent contact with the chemical, pharma and biotech industry and understand their needs and requirements, assisting them in the development of new sustainable solutions.
